5 Movies I Can’t Wait to See…

Monsters University

Monsters University
If someone asked me to name my favourite Pixar movie of all time, I couldn’t pick just one. I might be able to name my top 5. But just one? Not a chance. However I can put my hand on my heart and say that I’ve seen Monsters Inc. more times than any other, and I’m still nowhere near bored of it. So when I heard Pixar was working on their first ever prequel, and that it would be a prequel to Monsters Inc., I was super-excited. I can say with certaintly that I won’t be missing Monsters University when it is released this summer, and I strongly suggest you don’t either!

  • UK release on July 12th
  • USA release on June 21st

Kick-Ass 2

Kick-Ass 2
I LOVED Kick-Ass and I LOVE Jim Carey. So how could this movie possibly be bad? Well, I’m slightly concerned that Matthew Vaughn has handed over directorial duties to Jeff Wadlow (who also penned the screenplay). I haven’t seen any of Wadlow’s work, but from what I can see he’s done a bunch of TV movies and some stuff I’ve never heard of. However, I’m keeping and open mind. I’m hopeful. I have to be. I loved Kick-Ass and I love Jim Carey, so this can’t possibly be bad, right?

  • UK release on July 19th
  • USA release on August 16th

Elysium

Elysium
District 9 was one of my favourite movies of 2009 so I’m really excited to see what Neill Blomkamp does with Elysium. If the trailer is anything to go by we can expect an intelligent, gritty, thought-provoking movie, packed with stunning visual effects. I think this could be the biggest sci-fi movie of 2013. Yes, even bigger than Star Trek Into Darkness. It’s certainly the one I’m most looking forward to.

  • UK release on September 20th
  • USA release on August 9th

Ender’s Game

This one seems to have people split down the middle. Fans of the novel aren’t happy with some of the casting choices. I haven’t read the novel, but I love the premise. A teenage boy sent to a space station orbiting earth to train for an alien invasion. That sounds AWESOME! And as for the casting, I don’t know why people are complaining. Asa Butterfield was great in Hugo and Harrison Ford is always competent. On paper, this could be very good indeed!

  • UK release on October 25th
  • USA release on November 1st

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
Holy fuck! I thought the casting for Sin City was inspired. But Sin City 2 will feature Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin and Ray Liotta… I don’t think I could name 3 cooler actors in Hollywood right now. And much of the cast from the first movie will be returning, once again with Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller at the helm. Rumours of Tarantino getting involved are apparently not true. It doesn’t matter. We all know this will be fucking awesome!

  • USA release on October 4th
  • UK release… unannounced at the moment (this is not a good sign!)

Special Mention: Jurassic Park IMAX 3D

Jurassic Park 3D
Our cousins on the other side of the Atlantic have already had the pleasure of seeing the IMAX 3D version of Jurassic Park. Stereo D in Burbank spent 2 years converting this classic into 3D, and apparently this is their best job yet (Stereo D are guys behind the the 3D in Avengers, Avatar, and the 3D re-release of Titanic). Jurassic Park has held a special place in my heard since I saw it when I was 12 years old. I really can’t wait to experience it in IMAX 3D.

  • UK release on August 23rd
